“I would very much like a bohemian wedding!”

“Vintage-details would be great!”

“What is urban chic and what does it have to do with my wedding?”

Sounds familiar? You are a little lost when it comes to finding the wedding style that fits to you?

The times when wedding decorations consisted of white table cloths and red roses with rhinestones and gypsophila are long gone. Fortunately! Nowadays we are able to find lots of inspiration online. Thanks to a variety of wedding blogs, magazines and Pinterest, weddings have become way more diverse and individual. Styles and trends have manifested themselves and with them service providers who specialize in one specific style. That’s why it can be quite a challenge to work out which style of wedding fits best with you. A lot of details have to be worked out based on the one style you choose in the end. Things like the venue, stationary, the decoration and of course the dress have to be true to style and match it perfectly. Yes, even the photographer has be taken into consideration here. You are facing the challenge of finding the one who can best portray your desired style in picture form.

We asked Irka, Creative director at PomPom your life! to explain how she helps clients find out what is their wedding style and how she then transports it without any stylistic inconsistencies. The following pieces of advice make this task an inspiring journey to start the wedding planning!

Where to start?

The answer to that is quite simple: Start with yourself! “I always encourage my clients to look into themselves and seek inspiration outside the wedding world”, says Irka. “I therefore ask them to remember what is special to them as a couple. Do they like to travel? Are there any common hobbies? What connects them? When you integrate such elements into the wedding design you automatically share your own, personal story with your loved ones. An individual touch that people will remember.”

A lot of people find it hard to describe their own style. To be fair: One doesn’t typically think about such things in their day to day life, do they? The question is: are they as a couple more silly and unconventional or rather classy? Do they like glamour or country-style? How does their interior look like? And what is inside the closet?

Here too Irka has a few helpful tips. “What does help couples is to think of designs or styles that others have already created, like movie sets, restaurants, hotels, patterns, graphics and to work out what exactly they like about it. If you put together pictures of that, you are most likely to quickly figure out what appeals to you.”

Pinspiration

Pinterest be blessed! If you don’t already have a Pinterest account, now is the time to go and create one for yourself. Pinterest allows you to search for thousands of inspirations and pin what appeals most to you. Are you able to detect a lot of similarity amongst those pins? Then it might just be that you already feel drown to a particular style subconsciously.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Just don’t stress out!

Irka says she often finds that especially brides get stressed out because they keep searching for ideas although they have already found a style. “It is tempting but unfortunately defeats the purpose. Couples end up confused and flooded with ideas. That’s why i advice our clients to stop looking, after having first chosen their style. It’s not like you go back to Tinder after the engagement only to make sure you’re not missing out on a better deal. At least that’s what you shouldn’t do.”, Irka jokes.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Venue

Many couples chose the venue even before they agree on a wedding style. This can help you find your style more easily but it may just as well hinder you in doing so. The venue is a reflection of what you both as a couple find appealing. If you love nature, it’s more than likely you won’t choose an industrial loft or a castle for your wedding. If you both favor one particular venue, it might be that this location in itself cancels out a certain style already. Urban Chic wouldn’t work on the beach or same as a vintage wedding wouldn’t happen on a roof top terrace.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Do I really want that?

Finally you should ask yourselves if you would still be in love with and sold on your wedding concept in 25 years time like you are right now. You might want to ask yourselves the question whether you would be comfortable with showing your grandchildren the pictures of your The Hobbit-inspired wedding. Would you still be speaking about that day as enthusiastically and passionately as you feel about it now? If that’s not the case, go with a timeless theme or style instead.

Ask a Pro

Friends and family are mostly the ones you turn to when you are in need of an evaluation on what style might fit best. Those assessments are often times rather subjective especially when it comes to weddings. When your mum has alway been picturing you in a white princess ball gown, you on your part are thinking color, joy might turn into frustration quickly.

That’s the reason why you should consult with a professional who can objectively take in your wishes and suggestions and turn them into valuable  pieces of advice on how to combine everything. That might already make all the difference.

The most important thing which you should really internalize: The wedding concept has to fit your personal style. The only time you as a couple can be authentic, is when the concept is coherent and shows that you are not only chasing after trends or copy what everyone else is doing. A concept which doesn’t harmonize with neither the location nor your style feels insincere and misplaced. Your special day deserves a special concept![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

How do you implement a wedding style?

When you have decided on a wedding style: stay true to it. Nothing is less authentic or feels more superficial than a wedding with a wild mix of different stylistical elements.

That is easily the most difficult part of the process because it means picking only those ideas from an endless stream of inspirations that truly fit the overall conception. “If you are getting married in a castle, it might be that your beloved rustic elements don’t fit that well. With some designs i try and stay true to the venue as much as possible, ensuring that the wedding stays authentic.”, says Irka.

In order for you to know which elements go best with the wedding style of your choosing, we have assembled style guides for the different styles like Boho, Urban Chic, Fine Art, Vintage and Rustic. There you may find a variety of inspiration on how to coherently implement the specific style. Furthermore our Pinterest-Account is definitely worth looking into.
