Romantic castle wedding in Germany with an intense berry wedding color palette

Germany has some amazing wedding venues. Imagine a romantic old castle on a hill, surrounded by peaceful nature. A wedding ceremony with an extraordinary view over the valley. Eva and Sebastian were searching for an experience like that. They were living in Switzerland when they decided to get a wedding planner from Germany to help with the design concept of their wedding. Their dream was to tie the knot in Germany. The Burghotel Hardenberg was the perfect spot for them, since Eva’s grew up not far away and her family still lives in the area. Eventually, they contacted me. As a passionate wedding planner, I was eager to help them with their design concept.

Are you also planning a castle wedding in Germany or maybe in another country? Then this castle wedding at Schloss Bensberg could be a great inspiration for you! And if you are uncertain with your wedding color scheme then have a look at this step by step guide to the most beautiful color concept.

The historic Hardenberg castle ruins in Germany

The beautiful remains of the precious castle in Germany recalls to the reasons why it was built. Around 1000, the castle was built to protect and serve the population. But a heavy thunderstorm crashed the castle. Count Hardenberg, who owned this castle in 1698, built a new luxurious manor house on the foot of the mountain. To this day, the counts of Hardenberg still live in this estate.

Castle ruins are very romantic due to the reverent and momentous appearance. So it’s no wonder why our couple Eva and Sebastian decided to tie the knot at this breathtaking surrounding. The wedding ceremony was held in the garden outside of the building. The wedding castle has a beautiful garden with majestic old oak trees and a stunning view. So there could not have been any better place to tie the knot. We arranged white garden chairs in a semicircle and a white wedding arch with lush flower decoration in burgundy and marsala colors facing the old oak trees.

Romantic castle wedding with a burgundy wedding color scheme

Eva and Sebastian wanted their wedding to shine in bright berry colors. Therefore we went with burgundy as the main wedding color and combined it with different shades of pink, purple and marsala to an intense berry wedding color palette.

We used romantic flowers like english garden roses, hydrangea, dahlias, scabiosas and chinus twigs for the wedding floristry. The bridal bouquet was tied with beautiful silk ribbons in different berry tones. The berry wedding color palette draws through the entire floral decoration of this castle wedding and involves the table decoration as well.

The wedding reception took place at the Hardenberg BurgHotel. Located in the centre of the Count von Hardenberg’s estate, at the foot of the historic castle ruins, the Hardenberg BurgHotel is a refuge of classic elegance and rural idyll, unspoilt nature and modern comfort.

For the table decoration we decided to pick up the classic elegant and rural appearance of the venue. We placed crossback chairs made of oak wood around round tables. The tables were set with white linen tablecloths to create a neutral background for the decoration. The intense wedding color palette could be found in the lush floral centerpieces, candles in different berry tones, velvet ribbon tied around white linen napkins.

The emotional wedding experience

As a wedding planner I know that there are many details you need to keep in mind while planning a wedding and sometimes things just don’t go as planned and you need to be prepared for a plan b or c.

We faced several obstacles that had to be conquered, in order to make the day perfect.

During the planning process we figured that the ceremony venue at the old castle ruins couldn’t be accessed with a truck so we had to organize another way to get all of the equipment up there, which resulted in a longer time we needed to set up the ceremony site. At the same time we knew we would only have a narrow time window, since at the castle ruins there is also the registrar’s office and other couples would use the area until an hour before the ceremony. With a detailed time schedule and a well-focused team we managed to set up the whole ceremony and the reception within the given time.

On top of that, the day of the wedding the motorway was shut down so we had to detour to country roads that were jammed with traffic. It took us much more time to get to the venue and it was a real challenge to keep the schedule. The key to success was flexibility and a well organized teamwork.

Turn the bad things into something good

As you can see, behind the curtain there are many things that might not go as planned. The skill here is to keep a cool head and come up with solutions that may are even better than the original! In the end, it was a wonderful and emotional day for everyone.

A big thank you goes to Eva and Sebastian, you two were a pleasure to work with and I wish you a lifetime of joy, love and happiness!

“Whenever I talked about you with my friends, I called you my swiss pocketknife. You did not only the decoration, but also held everything together like glue (flowers, decoration, tableware, chairs, games, setup). You were the heart of our celebration. I loved the floristry and every guest did so, too.” – Eva and Sebastian
