How to celebrate a Golden 20ies themed wedding in style

Decoration for a 1920s themed wedding

Decorations in the style of the 20s are lavish and overbearing and radiate a dramatic elegance. In order to develop a decoration concept for this, that would at the same time fit into our time, we have dived into the time of the 20s. We fell in love with the wonderfully elegant, minimalistic patterns and decorations of art deco. And of course we had to watch the move “The Great Gatsby” a number of times 😉 We went through old books, choose patterns and textures, in oder to create a coherent whole in the end.

For the color pallet we opted for a less harsh teal-emerald and white combination instead of the typical black, white and gold look.  Thereto we added some golden details because that definitely can’t be missed in any 20s style event.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]I love her and that is the beginning and end of everything.

– F. Scott Fitzgerald/The Great Gatsby

Thanks to the cinematic resurrection of F. Scotts Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby”, the TV-show “Downton Abbey” and the ever grown popularity of fine vintage decorations, the Roaring Twenties is one of the wedding trends at the moment. The trends has been around for a while now and will probably stay with us for a bit longer. The Roaring Twenties…a time where parties were more wild, shows more elaborate, buildings higher but standards on the other hand a little lower.. so why not throwing a Great Gatsby inspired wedding?

The 20s embody joy, charleston, flapper girls, cigarette tips, feather boas and pin striped suits, Art Deco, glamorous gowns, shiny fabrics, pearls, sequins, tassels and fringes.

We have been inspired by this intoxicating time. Together with a brilliant team we have implemented a wedding concept in the style of Jay and Daisy. Take a little journey through time with us and experience a long-gone era which we have brought to life again inside the Cumberlandsche Galerie in Hanover. Get carried away by Anja Schneemann’s wonderful photos of this fine art wedding.

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The round table was assembled with white chiavari chairs. The bridal couple’s chairs got a decoration of orchids and exotic leaves. Going along with the color theme, emerald and turquoise glasses and napkins were used. The centerpiece is framed by old brass candleholders.

The same color glasses which have beautiful golden details to them, can be perfectly combined with crystal glasses. This way an elegant and precious atmosphere is achieved. A pretty collection of one-of-a-kind pieces, old brass candlesticks and crystal glasses can be found in our decoration rental.

Besides colorfully adapted napkins in a wonderful green-turquoise tone, every place has been assembled with golden bottom plates, golden cutlery and an old-fashioned service with delicate golden edge. Even the choc has been aligned to fit the color scheme. It accompanies the name cards, which have been designed to fit the stationary.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Wedding Floristry for a 20s wedding theme

Rieke at Milles Fleurs is a real flower artist. Her creations round of the decoration concept. For the dreamy centerpiece she combined white orchids with larkspur and luscious heavy greens in tall vases. It underlines the fine table decor in an elegant and voluptuous way.

The bridal bouquet made of white orchids is flowy and wide and fits perfectly into the whole ambience of this Great Gatsby wedding. The maid of honor’s bouquet is a bit more subtle. Ultimately it is not looking to upstage the day’s leading actress.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Bridal Dress and Accessories

Jenny Packham is known for her luxurious designs, that are often elaborately beaded with lots of sparkling crystals. Some of the dreamy dresses’ cuts and designs remind us of the 20s. Perfect for our concept.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]For the jewelry we combined dainty art deco earrings with vintage pearl necklaces. Maybe you can still find something like this in your grandma’s jewelry box. Otherwise there are lots of affordable replica from this era.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The hair accessory is by Danish designer Jannie Baltzer, who conjures delicate pieces of art in her Copenhagen studio. A fine selection of headpieces by Jannie Baltzer you can find at Ria Saage by the way.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Suits and accessories

In the men’s outfits, that have been assembled beautifully by Rolf Eisenmenger at LO & GO, you can also find elegant, shimmering fabrics.  Top hats and extravagant walking sticks add to the look. We admit, to wear such an outfit you will have to have a little bit of courage and self-confidence. The one who dares can be sure to make a grand entrance though, much like Jay Gatsby.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Sweet Table

For the sweet table mundus has come up with treats that fit the theme, like champagne truffle cupcakes for example. The shiny gold and glitter cupcake toppers you can find in our shop.

The wedding cake and the cookies have been lavishly hand painted by Kristin Janus.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Gin and cigar bar

In addition to the sweet table there is the gin and cigar bar for the guys. It is assembled on an elegant brass bar cart. If you would like, you can rent this cart from our rental for your own wedding.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Gorgeous Great Gatsby Hairstyles & Make up

In the 1920s the make up used to be quite heavy: lips accentuated with dark reds, lashed with dramatical swing. And water waves are the staple of that time. Ria Saage styled hair and make up and interpreted the look on a new level to make it wearable in modern times and gives you an excellent style inspiration for your Great Gatsby wedding.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Stationary for a Great Gatsby wedding

The stationary, developed by Marit Hanson, is divinely beautiful. Elegant and playful it mirrors the style of the roaring twenties perfectly. To achieve this Marit used art deco style fonts and patterns which aline with the color theme.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
