How to calculate the right tablecloth size
The formula is simple: table size + double overhang = tablecloth size. The overhang is added on both sides - i.e. once on the left and once on the right, once at the front and once at the back.
Step 1: Measure the table
- Rectangular table: Measure the length and width of the table top.
- Round table: Measure the diameter (from one side to the other, through the centre).
- Long table: Total length of all tables placed side by side, plus width of a single table top.
Step 2: Select overhang
- Everyday life & home (20-25 cm): Practical and proportional. Fits standard tablecloths in 130 × 250 cm.
- Festive occasions & events (floor-length): The overhang corresponds to the table height - usually 72-75 cm. Floor-length tablecloths look luxurious, completely conceal table legs and are the material of choice for weddings, galas and professional events.
Step 3: Calculate
Formula for rectangular table: length + (2 x overhang) = tablecloth length | width + (2 x overhang) = tablecloth width
Round table formula: Diameter + (2 x overhang) = table top diameter
Example: table 200 x 90 cm, overhang 20 cm --> tablecloth 240 x 130 cm
If the result is between two tablecloth sizes: always round to the next larger size. The drape looks more harmonious.

Which tablecloth fits my dining table?
A dining table 80 cm wide and 160 cm long with a 25 cm overhang requires a tablecloth of approx. 130 × 210 cm. The standard size of 130 × 250 cm fits very well here - the slightly longer overhang at the ends looks elegant.
How do I calculate the tablecloth for a long table?

What is the difference between floor-length and 20-25 cm overhang?
For a dining table with a height of 75 cm, the floor-length overhang is 75 cm on each side - the tablecloth covers the entire surface of the floor. This creates an opulent effect, completely conceals the table legs and is a stylish means of event decoration. An overhang of 20-25 cm is suitable for everyday use, easier to handle and fits ready-made sizes.

Which tablecloth fits on a round table with a diameter of 120 cm?
With 25 cm overhang: 120 + 2 × 25 = 170 cm diameter. The next ready-made size would be ø 178 or ø 180 cm. Floor length with 75 cm table height: 120 + 150 = 270 cm - here we recommend a rental solution from our Tablecloth hire.
How do I calculate the tablecloth for a bar table?
High tables usually have a height of 108-110 cm and a diameter of 70-80 cm. Floor length results in: 70 + 2 × 110 = 290 cm diameter. As these dimensions are far outside the standard sizes, we recommend bar table covers or hire options from our Rental.
What is the advantage of a linen tablecloth over polyester?
Linen has natural folds that smooth out when laid on the table - the fabric always looks slightly handcrafted, never smooth and sterile. For floor-length tablecloths at events, linen falls particularly beautifully because the weight of the fabric creates an even drape. Linen is also robust, washable and durable.
How do I recognise whether my table dimensions correspond to standard dimensions?
Typical dining tables are 80 cm (compact) or 90 cm (more generous) wide. Banquet lengths vary - common single table sizes for hire are 80 × 180 cm or 80 × 200 cm. If you have several tables arranged next to each other, simply enter the total length in the calculator.
