Magnolias on Silk did not start with a business plan, but with curiosity.
Irka and Marcell found each other through their shared love of art, design and travelling - and through their desire not only to find things beautiful, but to understand them. Colours, materials, places. Why something works. And why others don't.
On their travels, they collected impressions like other souvenirs: textures of fabrics, colour moods from markets, shapes from architecture and crafts. Much of this initially remained a feeling - until it slowly developed into their own signature style.
The first visible expression of this joint creativity was called PomPom your life!. Handmade tissue paper flowers, light, playful, full of colour. They found their way into weddings and small celebrations - and quickly showed that it wasn't just about decoration, but about atmosphere. About what makes a room come alive.
The desire to go further grew almost of its own accord. Fewer individual pieces, more rooms. Less moment, more history.
This is how Magnolias on Silk came about: as a studio where design and craftsmanship meet personal experiences - and where many ideas are still born on the road. While travelling, in conversations, in small studios, often far away from the desk.

Our team - The heart of Magnolias on Silk
Every brand has a face - and many helping hands.
Magnolias on Silk is run and creatively managed by Marcell and Irka. They are surrounded by an established network of employees, partners, craftspeople and service providers who share our way of working, our quality standards and our love of finely crafted details.

Irkas interest in design began very early on. Even as a little girl, she was passionate about putting ideas for lamps, furniture and all kinds of things on paper, devoured books on design styles and had an incredible amount of fun designing and decorating.
After a career as a lawyer specialising in negotiation and conflict management in an international management consultancy, Irka turned this passion into a career many years later and now finally feels that she has arrived. Much of what she incorporates into her work is self-taught. She is currently studying colour design at the HAWK. She loves travelling to faraway countries, nature and interior design.
Irka's design language is minimalist, organic, elegant and timeless. She prefers to be inspired by nature and the beautiful things in life.

Marcell is a passionate bon vivant and philanthropist and is characterised by his curiosity and openness. He loves trying new things and exploring the world. He shares Irka's passion for travelling and timeless design. Marcell's credo is diversity. For him, the world offers a colourful kaleidoscope of possibilities to try out. Author, artist, sportsman, entrepreneur, photographer, father, geographer... are all facets of him.
As Managing Director, he keeps an eye on the big picture, looking at the finances and thinking outside the box.

Our work is characterised by three principles: Inspiration, responsibility and authenticity. They accompany us from the initial idea to the final touch and make our design lively and personal.
Inspiration
Our ideas are born on the road: when travelling, in small studios, in nature or when discovering old craft techniques. We are inspired by colours, textures and materials and translate these impressions into designs that suit our customers. This results in festivals and objects that are timeless and tell more than just following a trend.
Responsibility
For us, responsibility means using resources consciously. We work with durable materials, favour local production and develop decorations that can be reused. For us, beauty and consideration are not mutually exclusive - on the contrary: they belong together.
