A dreamy autumn wedding at the Hardenberg Burghotel: How berry tones enchant the day
Germany is a treasure trove of dream wedding locations, but an old castle, picturesquely enthroned on a mountain and surrounded by unspoilt nature, offers a very special charm for the marriage ceremony. Eva and Sebastian, who both lived in Switzerland, chose the Hardenberg Burghotel as the venue for their wedding celebrations. This location, not far from Eva's home, provided the perfect backdrop for an autumn wedding to remember.
With this in mind, we begin our story of an autumn wedding that not only inspires with its romantic backdrop, but also stands out with a thoughtful colour scheme in shades of berry. For anyone dreaming of a castle wedding, whether in Germany or beyond, the inspiration Eva and Sebastian's day offers is a real treasure.
The ruins of Hardenberg Castle: a backdrop straight out of a fairy tale
The historical ruins of Hardenberg Castle take you back to a time of knights and myths. Built as a fortress around the year 1000, its remains bear witness to its former splendour. This historic site becomes a witness to love when it becomes a breathtaking backdrop for the wedding vows.
Eva, who grew up near Hardenberg, and Sebastian wanted a location for their wedding that not only offered breathtaking nature, but also a profound history and a unique ambience. The idea of celebrating their wedding in a castle that still tells stories from a bygone era inspired them. The choice fell on the Hardenberg Burghotel, a place that combines romance and elegance and offers the perfect setting for an autumn wedding in berry tones.Eva and Sebastian opted for a free wedding ceremony under the protection of a centuries-old oak circle, an image that stands for eternity.
A riot of colour in berry tones: the design of an autumn wedding
Deciding on a colour scheme is crucial for the atmosphere of the wedding. Eva and Sebastian chose berry tones to reflect the transition from late summer to autumn. Burgundy, complemented by shades of pink, purple and red, formed the basis of their wedding decorations. This intense colour palette reflected the naturalness and deep emotionality of the couple's love.
The colour scheme in strong berry tones set the tone and gave the wedding an intense, emotional depth. Burgundy red as the main colour, complemented by shades of pink, purple and red, created a passionate atmosphere that was emphasised by the floral arrangements of dahlias, English roses, hydrangeas and scabiosas. Autumn, with its palette of ripe fruit and floral tones, provided the ideal inspiration for this colour concept.
The free wedding ceremony in the open air
The free wedding ceremony took place under the protection of old oak trees that grow in a circle on a small hill in the gardens of the Hardenberg. We arranged white garden chairs and a wedding arch for the free wedding ceremony, lavishly decorated with flowers in the chosen berry colours. This place, sheltered yet open, provided the perfect backdrop for the union of life.
The table decorations: the centrepiece of the festive dinner
An essential element of the wedding decorations is the table design, which is not only a visual but also an emotional centrepiece of the festivities. When designing the table decorations for the wedding dinner, we therefore placed particular emphasis on elegance and harmony with the natural surroundings. The choice fell on round tables with white linen tablecloths and crossback chairs made of light-coloured oak.
This simple elegance perfectly set off the bright berry tones of the floral arrangements and candles, with floral arrangements of dahlias, English roses, hydrangeas and scabiosas, accompanied by branches of the Brazilian pepper tree, forming the visual centrepiece of the tables. Menu cards, tied with a velvet ribbon in a deep berry red, rounded off the picture and invited guests to embark on a culinary journey.
The floral arrangements on the tables, combined with candles in different shades of colour, created a warm, inviting atmosphere, which was rounded off by the menu cards adorned with a velvet ribbon in berry colours. This careful attention to detail created an unforgettable ambience that invited guests into a world of beauty and love.

"Whenever I told my friends about you, I described you as „my Swiss army knife“ of the wedding. It felt like you didn't just do the decorations, but were basically the glue of our wedding (flowers, decorations, crockery, chairs, games, set-up etc.), in other words the entire heart of our celebration. I was thrilled with our floral decorations, as were every single guest, from whom I received only the best feedback. Dear Irka, if you make every bridal couple as happy as Sebastian and I, you are one of the few people in the world who can spread pure happiness 🙂 Keep up the good work and we are super happy and grateful that you were by our side and accompanied our most beautiful day! It wouldn't have been the same without you!"
