The top 3 wedding trends for 2023: Individual, sustainable and fun-loving

If you've just been proposed to and are already starting to plan your dream wedding, you'll want to keep up to date with the wedding trends for 2023. For this article, we have put together the three most important wedding trends for 2023. These are individuality, sustainability and joie de vivre.
To track down trends, our team visits the most important and largest interior design trade fairs in Europe every year, such as Maison et Objet in Paris or Ambiente in Frankfurt, and scouts trend-setting interior design and fashion magazines. This enables us to recognise trend developments at an early stage and develop collections.

Wedding trend 2023 no. 1: Individually different

One focus that will continue to grow in 2023 is the trend towards more individual and personalised decoration concepts that add something interesting and different to events. Hosts want to stand out from the crowd. They are therefore looking for customised products and concepts that allow them to express their personal style. As a result, two trends are coming to the fore: old made new and embrace craftsmanship.

Embrace Craftsmanship

The preference for craftsmanship is also driven by the desire for individual expression and sustainability. We see less soulless mass-produced products in event decoration that make events interchangeable. Disposable items and the use of materials based on fossil fuels and petroleum, such as plastics and polyester, are out of place. More and more people are recognising the benefits of handmade products: They are high-quality, durable and often have a special history.

Old made new

Personal accents can be wonderfully emphasised with design elements from bygone eras. The patina of these objects gives the decoration a tangible texture and warmth and tells stories. Old design objects and antiques are not only decorative, but also stylishly sustainable. By transforming the old into something new, we bring a rich sense of history and spirit into the room and reduce our carbon footprint at the same time. We believe that this trend will continue to grow, as second-life products are both a design-orientated and environmentally conscious choice and are therefore very much in tune with the spirit of the times.

Wedding trend 2023 no. 2: Inspired by nature

Nature has always been a reliable source of inspiration, natural materials, organic shapes and patterns, earthy tones are just some of the elements that we will see again at many weddings and events in 2023.

Natural materials

This is particularly evident in the use of natural materials such as clay, wood, linen and marble. The aspect of sustainability also plays a major role here. We therefore assume that this topic will be with us for some time to come. Customers are not only much more sensitive to the origin of products, but also to the materials from which they are made. This trend will continue and intensify. Natural materials such as sustainably grown wood, natural fibres such as linen, palm fibres and marble have a high-quality appearance and are therefore rightly the designers' favourites. In addition to our table linen made of high-quality linen in new, exciting colours, our current collections also include great designs made of palm fibres, marble and wood.

Organic shapes and patterns

This year we are seeing lots of organic shapes and floral patterns. Curved accessories that reflect organic shapes create a direct link to nature. In recent years, we have already seen a preference for large arches and circles in architecture, which continues in the decorative elements. Soft lines and shapes combined with earthy colours create feel-good spaces.

Warm earthy tones

Earth tones such as beige, sand and terracotta have become increasingly popular in recent years due to their calming effect and association with nature and continue to dominate colour palettes. People are starting to experiment with colours again. The more neutral and softer earth tones are receding into the background and are being complemented by stronger and more colourful shades such as burnt orange and sienna red. Rosy terracotta and rosewood colours are also becoming more common.

Everything stays green

Green remains a perennial favourite. Shades of green have been among the most popular colours for some years now, and this will remain the case. However, we are seeing a shift away from the popular olive tones towards pastel sage and strong emerald green. Shades of green can be combined with many colours. This makes them wonderfully versatile and the perfect new neutrals. 

Wedding trend 2023 no. 3: Joie de vivre and the renaissance of modern maximalism

After a long period of restraint and the crises of recent years, we are all longing for more joie de vivre and playfulness again, and we want to express this in the events we celebrate. While we've seen a lot of minimalism and minimalist styles like Scandi Chic and Japandi in recent years, we're seeing people rediscover their joy in colour, pattern, texture and accessories. Whether it's the unexpected use of colour or the mix of different patterns and textures, the trend towards maximalism is on the rise. The motto is: bolder, more colourful, bigger and more patterned, or in short: a 2023 wedding trend is "more is more".

It gets colourful

What signals more joie de vivre than bold, bright colours? The years of dull and muted colours are giving way to bold and cheerful shades that put a smile on people's faces. Shades of blue, especially deep cobalt blue, but also sunshine yellow, magenta and apricot tones are currently very popular. And even those who don't dare to colour block can add interest to a natural colour palette with bold colours as accents.

More is more

A little more is allowed. A 2023 wedding trend is a colourful mix of textures, colours and patterns. Whatever you like is allowed. The key to maximalism is that there are actually no rules. Don't be afraid to play with bold colours and unusual patterns. This trend is the perfect way to make a statement and create an event that is truly unique.
