We talk a lot about wedding planning and this post is no exception. The perfect mood board for a wedding is especially important for an impressive wedding concept. Almost every couple knows that feeling of being stuck in their planning and overwhelmed by all the ideas and possibilities. It's easy to get distracted by all the different styles. As a wedding planner and stylist, I like to use the mood board method a lot. For example, when I'm preparing a styled shoot or working with my lovely couples to make their dreams come true.

Why a mood board is so important for a wedding

If you're already engaged, then you probably know the feeling very well. You're excited and totally motivated, but you don't really know where to start. So many ideas are buzzing around in your head and it's not easy to decide on a style and stick to it. Or the many ideas no longer make sense once you put them together. It can be frustrating. That's why mood boards for weddings are a great thing. I like to create them with my couples. After a few brainstorming sessions, things start to come together. Start with your story, because that's what you want to tell on your big day. Your story, your personality, your dreams, your wishes and your goals...

Creating a visual guide will give the wedding planning a common thread. Being able to visualise what you like and what inspires you is the key to a great wedding concept. If you like, you can also create a mood board for every little detail. Be it the stationery, the floristry or the table decorations.

What are your dreams and ideas for your wedding

I like to take this step together with my couples, but you can of course also do it on your own. Think about your ideas and expectations for your wedding. What would you like your guests to say about this wedding? Is it timeless, elegant, glamorous, romantic or sweet? Some ideas fit certain styles and emphasise your wishes. This step sets the general tone of the wedding and the wedding concept evolves.

Gather inspiration for the mood board

You might be asking yourself „Where am I supposed to find inspiration?“. Inspiration can be found in so many things. Do you like poetry or paintings? Or are you often drawn to nature? Do things you like to do or try something you've always wanted to do! New experiences also create new inspiration. Perhaps you or your partner have a different cultural or ethnic background that you can explore even more together. Ultimately, it's who you are as a couple that counts. All the little pieces of your personality shape the wedding concept.

Choosing the right colour palette for your wedding concept

When it comes to colours, some couples already have one or two favourites. The choice of colours is very personal, as the colours reflect our character and mood. At the same time, they can also influence them. Choose colours that also match the wedding location and the concept. A colour palette should consist of three to five colours. These include the main colour, the second colour, accent colours and neutral colours. They should all harmonise. This can be achieved by using colour families. Select the images and create the mood board for your wedding concept

What would a mood board for a wedding be without pictures? Pinterest is perfect for this. You can get your inspiration from a huge number of images. Start by saving everything that interests you. Then think about your wedding concept. Which of these images match the concept and the location? Which image reminds you of your personality? Which pictures tell your story? Do these images match the colour scheme? We use our Pinterest account, to gather inspiration and share your own work with others.

A brief insight into Pinterest

By now you may be wondering what all the talk about Pinterest is actually about. Pinterest is a search engine. You can use it to search for recipes, outfit ideas or interior design, for example. In the start feed, pins are suggested to you that could belong to your interests according to your search behaviour. A pin is always associated with a website. You can save this pin and sort all your pins on pinboards by category. This way you always have an overview. Your profile contains your followers and the accounts you follow. You can also access your pinboards and pins from there. To search for specific things, simply enter your term in the search bar. Such as „wedding flowers“. Pinterest will then offer you additional terms that you can add as you wish. It is also becoming increasingly popular to put a hashtag in front of your search term.

Style is important

Try to pay attention to the photographic style when selecting images. This will create a more harmonious image. The mood board for your wedding can be either manual or electronic. Print and cut out the pictures and arrange them on the wall. Or you can stay directly on Pinterest and create various folders with pictures there. There is also good, free software that you can use. Canva is a good choice here. Have fun and be creative!
