Autumn table decorations with pumpkin - 5 creative ideas for your modern autumn table

October 18

The autumnal table decoration with pumpkins brings a magical atmosphere into our homes, while nature is bathed in golden, warm tones. The colourful pumpkins are not only symbols of the harvest, but also centrepieces of this decoration. For us, there is nothing better than wandering through nature on cool autumn afternoons, gathering inspiration and bringing this beauty to our table. With every pumpkin and every candle, we tell a story - one that embodies warmth, family and the joy of decorating.

In this post, we present 5 creative ideas to help you create an autumnal table that is guaranteed to turn heads. It remains modern and minimalist - without any dried flowers or frills. For the decorations, we deliberately opted for a concept in which pumpkins play the main role, in the colours white and orange.

Let's go!

Modern pumpkin style: the combination of white and orange

Who says that autumnal table decorations with pumpkins always have to be rustic? We have chosen a modern approach with pumpkins taking centre stage. The colour concept is simple yet effective: a mixture of white (Mini Boo) and orange pumpkins (e.g. microwave pumpkins and decorative pumpkins) brings the autumn mood directly to the table.

The trick here is to strike a balance between the different sizes and shapes of the pumpkins. Combine smaller pumpkins with slightly larger ones to create a varied and interesting tablescape.

Instead of having to paint or decorate the pumpkins, it is enough to let the different shapes and colours have their effect. The natural white and orange complement each other wonderfully and create a harmonious contrast. This keeps everything natural and modern.

DIY pumpkin candle holder: stacking instead of carving

Let's move on to the highlight of our table decoration: the DIY pumpkin candle holders. But don't worry, we're not reaching for the carving knife here! Instead, we're stacking different pumpkins on top of each other to create a great height on the table. Not only does it look impressive, it's also super easy to make.

Find out how to do it here:

  • Step 1

Start by selecting two to three pumpkins of different sizes. Smaller ornamental pumpkins and mini boos are best.

  • Step 2

Try out different variations. It looks best when the bottom pumpkin is slightly larger than the top one.

  • Step 3

Poke a hole in the top pumpkin with an apple corer that is large enough to fit your candle (preferably a long stick candle). We used candle sleeves for this, which fit perfectly into the hole and hold the candle securely. It also looks stylish.

  • Step 4

Now simply stack the pumpkins on top of each other and test a little to see how they naturally sit best on top of each other. To make sure everything holds securely, connect the pumpkins with toothpicks so that nothing can slip. And now you have your pumpkin candle holder!

These pumpkin candle holders really make a statement and are an absolute eye-catcher. You can place them in the centre of the table as a central decorative element or arrange several at different heights. The trick is not to use too many candles at once - we want to keep it modern and minimalist!

Tableware and placemats: Natural materials create warm autumn magic

With the pumpkins as the centrepiece, it's time to set the table - and this is where the real pleasure begins. The warm wood tones of the Place mat and the  white earthenware crockery from Costa Nova create a perfect balance between rustic warmth and modern elegance. When the silver cutlery glistens in the soft candlelight, the table comes alive. It's these little moments - the soft wood under your hands, the subtle light - that transport your guests into a cosy autumn world.

If you don't have acacia wood to hand, that's no problem - any wooden plate or placemat made from natural materials will work. It's all about creating a base that is warm, yet simple and modern. The white stoneware tableware then provides the perfect contrast and draws the focus to the bright colours of the pumpkins.

Combine your crockery with a ice blue linen tablecloth and suitable Linen napkins in midnight blue to keep the colour concept consistent. A small Plain metal napkin ring rounds off the look.

The finishing touch: pumpkins as a table centrepiece

Last but not least, it's all about arranging your autumnal table decorations with pumpkins in the best possible way. We have decided to use pumpkins from the Pleasure gardening as a central element and arrange them in different heights and sizes. This creates variety and gives the table depth and structure.

If you place the pumpkins skilfully, you can easily emphasise different areas of the table. For example, place a group of stacked pumpkins with candle holders in the centre of the table and scatter smaller decorative pumpkins all around. This makes the table look lively and exciting without looking overloaded.

Make sure you leave enough space for the crockery and food - the pumpkins should decorate the table, but not completely dominate it. Less is sometimes more!
