Table decoration with hydrangeas: September in bloom

September 10

A table decoration with hydrangeas is the perfect choice to celebrate late summer in style. September is in full splendour before autumn slowly arrives. The sun is shining gently, the air is clear and pleasant and the leaves are beginning to change colour. One plant that perfectly represents late summer is the hydrangea. With its lush flowers that shine in a variety of colours, it makes for a cheerful yet elegant table decoration. In this article, you will learn how to create a table decoration with hydrangeas that will wow your guests.

Why use hydrangeas for table decorations?

Hydrangeas are not only beautiful, but also versatile. Their voluminous balls of flowers add a certain opulence to any table setting. They are easy to care for and have an amazing shelf life, making them ideal for decorating parties and special occasions. Particularly fascinating: hydrangeas can change colour - depending on the pH value of the soil in which they grow. This means they offer exciting colour variations from blue and pink to vibrant purple and red.

Another advantage of hydrangeas for table decorations is their size. A lavish decoration can be created with just a few blooms, without the need for vast quantities of flowers. They are therefore ideal for large tables in particular. They can be used in individual vases as well as in lavish arrangements and always create an impressive look. Thanks to their longevity, they often last for several days and always look fresh, making them the perfect choice for multi-day events or celebrations.

Which hydrangea colours match the table decorations?

A key point in the design of a Table decoration with hydrangeas is the choice of colours. Hydrangeas are available in various shades, ranging from delicate pastel tones to bold colours. This variety makes it possible to match them perfectly to the desired colour scheme. Whether delicate pink for a romantic wedding or strong blue for a summer garden party - the flowers offer countless possibilities.

You can create different colour gradients for an elegant and harmonious table decoration. Hydrangeas are particularly suitable for this technique, as they naturally create flowing transitions between different colour tones. An example could be a combination of soft blue tones that slowly fade into pink and finally end in strong red. Such gradients reflect the transitions from summer to autumn and create a moody atmosphere.

Inspiration: Table decoration with hydrangeas

To perfectly capture late summer, we were inspired by the idyllic Maschsee lake in Hanover for a table decoration with hydrangeas. In collaboration with master florist Rieke von Milles Fleurs, we developed a harmonious colour concept that reflects the transitions of late summer colours from cool blue to vibrant red. These colour gradients reflect the gradual changes in nature, resulting in a particularly impressive table decoration.

Materials for table decorations with hydrangeas

We used the following elements for the table decorations to showcase the hydrangeas in the best possible light:

  • Linen tablecloths in off-white for a natural, elegant look. Linen is a particularly popular material for high-quality table decorations, as it looks both rustic and elegant.
  • Colour-coordinated napkins in pink, fuchsia and lavender, that pick up on the colour palette of the hydrangea flowers. Cloth napkins add an elegant touch to the decoration and can be creatively folded or decorated with rings.
  • Plates from the PEARL series by Costa Nova, whose elegant structure emphasises the flower shapes of the hydrangeas. Earthenware crockery is perfect for natural decorations as it is both modern and timeless.
  • Hobnail glasses and carafe from trend label Klimchi, whose dimpled structure is reminiscent of the drops that collect on hydrangea leaves after a rain shower. The interplay of light and structure in these glasses adds an extra dimension to the decoration.
  • Candlestick from Ester & Erik in gold matt with candles in colour numbers 05, 82 and 51 for harmonious lighting. Candlelight creates a warm atmosphere and makes the colours of the hydrangeas glow.
  • Glass vases, jam jars or preserving jars, which reflect the colours of the hydrangeas beautifully and can appear more rustic or more elegant depending on the occasion.

Tips for creating table decorations with hydrangeas

1. create colour gradients: Hydrangeas are perfect for creating colour transitions on the table. Start with delicate shades of blue and purple and work your way up to strong shades of pink and red. This is a wonderful reflection of late summer and the transition to autumn. A flowing colour gradient has a particularly harmonious effect and makes the table look like a work of art.

2. use vases and glasses creatively: Cylinder vases or jam jars in various sizes are ideal for arranging the hydrangeas. For a particularly rustic flair, you can use old preserving jars and decorate them with ribbons or natural fabrics. Small vases arranged in groups give the table decoration an interesting dynamic.

3. set lighting accents: Use simple, elegant candle holders and candles in neutral tones so as not to overpower the strong colours of the hydrangeas. Candles that are colour-coordinated with the flowers, such as our selection from Ester & Erik, look particularly harmonious. The gentle flickering of the candles complements the natural beauty of the hydrangeas and creates a cosy atmosphere.

4. preserve naturalness: Hydrangeas have a certain wildness that goes well with natural table decorations. Combine them with materials such as linen, wood and glass to create a relaxed, elegant look. Less is often more here - let the flowers speak for themselves and opt for simple but high-quality accessories.

5. use different heights: Play around with different heights to Table decoration with hydrangeaseven more exciting. Place tall vases next to flatter arrangements to offer the eye variety and create a dynamic composition.

The magic of hobnail jars from Klimchi

The Hobnail glasses and carafe from Klimchi are the perfect companion for this table decoration. The light is refracted and reflected in a special way, making the table decoration even more radiant. This crystal glass series is not only functional, but also a visual highlight that will delight your guests.

Crystal glasses are a luxurious element that enhances any table decoration. Their elegant appearance harmonises wonderfully with the lush shape of the hydrangea flowers, making them the perfect addition.
