Winter wedding in the Alps: getting married on the mountain pasture

December 13

A world blanketed in fine, glistening snow is magical - it's this magic that makes a winter wedding in the Alps so special. While many couples schedule their wedding for the warmer months of the year, winter offers a unique backdrop that is often overlooked. The crisp air, tranquil atmosphere and breathtaking scenery of snow-capped mountains add a fairytale feel to any winter wedding. Despite the cold, this time of year radiates a warmth and cosiness that is hard to find in other seasons. This is exactly why we love winter weddings in the Alps!

We chose the picturesque mountains of Austria as the backdrop for our inspiration shoot. The snow-covered peaks, the rustic wooden huts and the peaceful tranquillity of nature create the perfect setting for an unforgettable winter wedding in the Alps. A special highlight of this scenery: the rustic alpine hut where our bridal couple spent the night - a truly magical winter wonderland!

The perfect location for a winter wedding in the Alps

Choosing the right location is the centrepiece of a successful winter wedding in the Alps. We have opted for the Kasermandl hut in Austria, which has proven to be a real insider tip for winter weddings. Surrounded by snow-capped mountains and nestled in a fairytale landscape, this hut offers everything your heart desires: a rustic ambience, a crackling open fire and enough space to organise both the ceremony and the celebrations in an intimate setting.

This cosy alpine hut, which can only be reached by four-wheel drive vehicle or on foot, creates a sense of seclusion that makes a winter wedding a very special experience. The bride and groom can not only celebrate here, but also spend the night in the hut, which makes the celebrations particularly cosy and authentic.

A highlight: Sledging with huskies

A winter fairytale wouldn't be complete without a sleigh ride through the snowy mountain landscape. As enthusiastic husky lovers, our bridal couple were able to go on a dog sled tour. The ride through the deep snow, accompanied by the dogs tirelessly pulling the sled, was one of the most unforgettable experiences of this special day. The view of the valley while the sun makes the snow crystals glisten is unrivalled. Such an activity is also a real highlight for guests, turning a winter wedding in the Alps into an adventure.

Decoration for a winter wedding: rustic and cosy

The decoration of a winter wedding in the Alps should reflect the cosiness of the season. As it is often freezing cold outside, the atmosphere inside becomes all the more important. We created a rustic table for the bride and groom that echoed the warm atmosphere of the wooden hut. The choice fell on natural materials such as acacia wood and handmade ceramic plates, which perfectly matched the crossback chairs.

Cheesecloth napkins with open edges gave the table a rustic, handmade touch, while candles in warm colours lit up the winter darkness. Especially in the Alps, where the nights draw in early, atmospheric lighting provides just the right amount of cosiness. Tip: Glass cylinders or lanterns are ideal for protecting the candles from being blown out by the wind.

Styling tips for a winter wedding in the Alps

Preparing for a winter wedding brings with it some special challenges, especially when it comes to styling. While the bride often wears airy dresses in the warmer months, practical considerations need to be taken into account for a winter wedding - after all, nobody wants to freeze!

The bride

Our bride opted for a long, high-necked dress with lace sleeves and a voluminous tulle skirt. The look is not only romantic, but also perfectly suited to the wintry surroundings. She also wore a white fur jacket, which was both chic and warming. The brown boots ensured that she was safe and stylish even in the deep snow. Open, loose hair and subtle make-up emphasised the natural charm of the winter wedding.

A highlight of the bridal styling was the floral wreath, which was made from dark red snow roses. These vibrant colours contrasted beautifully with the white snowy landscape and provided a festive accent that underlined the winter flair of the wedding.

The groom: Wintery and elegant

The groom also opted for winter styling that was both elegant and functional. His grey suit harmonised perfectly with the natural colour palette of the snowy mountains, while accessories such as a hat and gloves gave him not only warmth but also a touch of adventure. Floral details, such as a small pin made from winter flowers, rounded off his look and ensured that he perfectly matched the overall look of the wedding.

Colour concept for the winter wedding: strong Bordeaux and red tones

The colour scheme for this winter wedding revolved around strong Bordeaux and red tones, which contrasted beautifully with the white snowy landscape. The bridal bouquet, centrepiece and other floral arrangements consisted of dark red Fritillaria meleagris (checkerboard flower), magnolia branches and Persian Fritillaria. The bold colours lent the wedding an elegant and festive character that blended seamlessly into the wintry surroundings. Especially in combination with the simple elegance of the snow-covered mountains, the strong red tones were warm and inviting.

Wedding stationery: snow and ice as inspiration

A modern detail that was integrated into the rustic setting of the alpine hut was the wedding stationery. This was designed on acrylic and transparent paper to emphasise the association with ice and snow. The calligraphy in white and blue-grey ink fitted in wonderfully with the winter theme and gave the wedding a simple but very elegant touch. The combination of rustic warmth and cool elegance created a harmonious overall look that emphasised the Winter wedding in the Alps an unforgettable experience.
